Did you know that there are over 2,000 federal, state, and private benefits programs available to help qualifying elders and other individuals with disabilities? No wonder I sometimes get headaches.
You can discover what valuable benefits you or a parent may qualify for in about 10 minutes. The National Council on Aging (NCOA), a nonprofit service and advocacy organization in Washington, DC, has a free service called BenefitsCheckUp that will allow you to enter information online and give you an on-the-spot report.
Many adults over 55 need help paying for prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other basic needs. But many people don’t know these programs exist or how they can apply. The online BenefitsCheckUp forms will pose a series of questions to help you identify benefits that could save money and cover the costs of everyday expenses. Some of the benefits areas covered by the site include:
- Medications
- Food
- Utilities
- Legal
- Health care
- Housing
- In-home services
- Taxes
- Transportation
- Employment Training
After you have completed the online form, you will receive a personalized report that describes the programs that you might be eligible to participate in. In some cases the report will even tell you how to apply for some of the programs online and access other application forms.
Give it a try! BenefitsCheckUp
